It’s 29 March 2019, Selene and Saverio’s big day. It’s a big day for me too, a dream come true: to photograph a wedding in a place that I love, the only place in the world I would actually call “home” - a place where, after much seeking, I soon hope to finally put down roots. What’s more, Saverio and Selene are friends of mine; I know them well and I know how much they love Gressoney, these mountains, woods, the smells and the colours. They have spent many happy times here with their families, as well as some with me and my family.

They chose to wear local outfits from Gressoney, typical of the Walser population. It’s not common to be able to wear these outfits, as they are part of the heritage of this culture and people. The couple asked the Walser people permission to wear them on this day—a day that meant so much to them—and a talented seamstress from the village altered the clothing for them.

So here is the tale of this wedding in the Lys Valley, on the slopes of Monte Rosa, at Castel Savoia, built as a residence for Queen Margherita. The tale begins the day before the wedding, in Carla Angster’s workshop in Gressoney-Saint-Jean, where the couple tried on their outfits before a photo shoot in the Castel Savoia park.

Congratulations Selene and Saverio!
